Mappings
Mappings connect local folders to a Notion page or database and define exactly how files are scanned, filtered, and synchronized.
Mapping Types
- - Page mapping: syncs files into a Notion page.
- - Database mapping: syncs files into a Notion database (Pro/Team).
Create a Mapping
- 1. Open Mappings in the desktop app.
- 2. Add New Mapping.
- 3. Select page or database mapping type.
- 4. Paste your Notion page/database URL or ID.
- 5. (Optional) Set a custom mapping title.
- 6. Add one or more local folders.
- 7. Configure filters and options, then save.
All Mapping Settings
- - Notion page/database URL or ID: target where file links are written.
- - Mapping title (optional): custom label; if empty, NotionGate fetches the title automatically.
- - Folders: one or more local folders to watch and sync.
- - Exclude file endings: file extension filters such as *.tmp, *.log, *.zip.
- - Exclude specific files: exact file paths or names to skip.
- - Exclude folders/patterns: subfolders or folder patterns to skip.
- - Full lifecycle sync (rename/delete): keeps Notion updated for renames and deletions.
- - Sync newly created files automatically: watches for new files and syncs them.
- - Include files in subfolders: also scans nested folders.
- - Use folder links (open Explorer): generated links open the containing folder instead of the file.
- - Enabled toggle: turns a mapping on or off without deleting it.
Filter Helpers
- - Pick folders/files from Explorer directly in the editor.
- - Auto-suggested file endings based on selected folders.
- - Common ending shortcuts for quick exclusion setup.
Plan and Limit Behavior
- - Basic: page mappings only, database mappings are disabled.
- - Basic: mapped folder and per-folder file limits are enforced and shown in-app.
- - Pro/Team: database mappings are available and shown as normal mapping tabs.
Lifecycle Sync
- - Create: adds new files to Notion when allowed by your mapping settings.
- - Rename: updates metadata and links when lifecycle sync is enabled.
- - Delete: removes or archives references when lifecycle sync is enabled.
Tips
- - Keep paths stable after creating mappings to avoid broken targets.
- - Use exclusions for temp/cache folders to reduce noise.
- - If no files sync, verify Notion sharing permissions on the target page/database.
Database Mapping
NotionGate can prepare missing required properties for database mapping and keep records aligned with your mapping configuration.
